A new Editorial Board for Veterinary Research (January 2010)

Since the 1st January of 2010 the Editorial leadership of Veterinary Research has changed. Michel Brémont (from INRA) is now the new Editor-in-Chief, and the former co-Editors-in-Chief Joëlle Charley-Poulain and Bruno Chomel, are now Deputy Editors for a few months to ensure a smooth handover. The Editor-in-Chief will be assisted by 5 Associate Editors who have been sollicitated and will cover all the research fields routinely published in Veterinary Research.

Freddy Haesebrouck, in charge of bacteriology-related manuscripts, is a veterinarian and PhD from Ghent University, Belgium. In 1988 he became professor in veterinary bacteriology and mycology, and since 1993 he has been head of the Department of Pathology, Bacteriology and Avian Diseases at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University. The expertise of his research group relates primarily to the study of bacterium-host interactions, taxonomy and antimicrobial resistance in bacteria of veterinary and zoonotic importance.

Elisabeth A. Innes, in charge of parasitology-related manuscripts, has conducted research in the area of infectious diseases of livestock for over 25 years having worked at several different research Institutes in the UK and Africa. She currently leads a group at Moredun Research Institute exploring solutions for controlling diseases caused by protozoan parasites. She has published over 170 scientific articles. She is also since 2008, Director of Communications at Moredun Research Institute.

Don Klinkenberg, in charge of epidemiology-related manuscripts, works as a lecturer in the Theoretical Epidemiology group, Department of Farm Animal Health, in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He has been working on infectious disease epidemiology since 1998, covering various infections in humans, cattle, pigs and poultry. His main interest is mathematical modelling and data analysis based on mechanistic models for infectious disease dynamics.

Jan P.M. Langeveld, in charge of prion-related manuscripts, is a biologist and protein biochemist, at the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen UR, Lelystad in The Netherlands. He has been involved in veterinary science since 1990. His main areas of active research are synthetic vaccines, diagnostics and prion diseases.

Artur Summerfield, in charge of immunology-related manuscripts, has made important contributions to veterinary immunology with a focus on the porcine immune system and its interaction with viral pathogens. He is heading the Immunology Group at the Institute of Virology and Immunoprophylaxis in Mittelhäusern, Switzerland. His current research focus is the characterization of the antigen presenting and interferon system of domestic animals and its functioning during infections.

The virology field will be covered by the Editor-in-Chief.

Caroline Dandurand and Wendy Brand-Williams will continue to assume their roles of Editorial Assistant and Langage Editor, respectively.
